Summer in the Psalms // Psalm 113-118 - The Psalms Jesus Sang
What do we do when the victory we are expecting doesn’t look anything like we imagined?
In this sermon, we explore the Psalms Jesus and His disciples would have sung on the night before the cross—particularly Psalms 113–118, the Passover hymns. These songs reminded God’s people of His faithfulness, deliverance and enduring love. Yet Jesus sang them knowing that betrayal, suffering and death were immediately ahead.
Psalm 118 declares, “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.” But what does it mean to sing those words when everything seems to be falling apart?
As we follow Jesus from the upper room to the cross, we are reminded that there is victory in the broken places. Jesus became the Passover Lamb, laid down His life, and through the cross brought us into the presence of God.
